Brentwood Town Centre Wins the Burnaby Business Excellence Award 2008
For “Burnaby Community Spirit”.

On November 6, 2008, at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, The Burnaby Board of Trade hosted the 9th Annual Burnaby Business Excellence Awards Gala which recognized and congratulated local businesses for their commitment to business excellence, outstanding achievements and contributions to the city.

The Burnaby Community Spirit Award is given to a business that demonstrates outstanding Corporate Responsibility and for the strong support of local service agencies and non-profit organizations.  Brentwood Town Centre accepted this prestigious award for our efforts with customers, employees, community groups and the environment.

Brentwood Town Centre was nominated for the Burnaby Community Spirit Award along with Best Buy Canada Ltd, Scotiabank, Vancity South Slope Community Branch and Westminster Savings – Metrotown Community Branch at the Burnaby Board of Trade Luncheon on October 2, 2008.

A website entitled, The Powder Room, crowned Brentwood Town Centre as British Columbia’s best bathroom (the contest was not limited to malls!). The Powder Room is a website designed to educate persons suffering from OAB (overactive bladders). The judges rated 260 public washrooms that were nominated by the public through their website. One washroom per province was awarded “Best Bathroom” based on a rating program of factors such as accessibility, cleanliness and overall decor. Brentwood has received much media coverage over this unusual title, including:

  • The Vancouver Sun (front page)
  • Burnaby Newsleader
  • National Post
  • Minkei Japanese Newspaper (Vancouver)
  • CFUN radio (live interview)
  • JR FM Country Radio
  • News 1130 All News Radio
  • CBC Television  (Evening News)
  • Global Television (Evening news)

Much of the appeal of Brentwood’s washrooms comes from its family friendly facilities such as the Family Washroom and Mother’s Room which is equipped with a lounge area, microwave, leather club chairs and play  table for toddlers. The CBC News team interviewed a father and his new born at Brentwood. He felt that “having a spacious clean room to bring a baby…it’s a relaxing experience…” The newscaster on Global news stated, “I’ve used it <Brentwood’s bathrooms>. It’s a nice room. I’d eat off of that bathroom!”

In 2006, one million dollars of Brentwood’s renovation budget was invested into the new washrooms and it has definitely been appreciated by shoppers.

Congratulations to the Brentwood custodial team who work diligently at keeping the washrooms clean, not an easy task when you consider that Brentwood’s washrooms traffic is estimated to be over 1 million visits each year!
